Do you sweat? Like, a lot? Us too. So, if we can make the switch from conventional deodorant to a non-toxic alternative in the name of health (and not run off friends and family with body odor in doing so), you can, too.
INGREDIENTS TO AVOID
Aluminum and Parabens (methyl, ethyl, propyl, benzyl and butyl) as they are hormone disrupters and have been linked to breast cancer. Silica, Talc, Steareth and Triclosan, all of which are skin irritants and can act as or are commonly contaminated with carcinogens. Also, Propylene Glycol, which is a neurotoxin and can cause damage to the central nervous system, liver and heart. Do your homework and read your labels! (Here's how.) Or, buy your beauty products from a brand you know steers clear of toxic ingredients.

We also tried... Herban Cowboy's Deodorant was a very close second but it didn't seem to keep us quite as fresh. Tom's of Maine's Deodorant, while super-affordable, couldn't hold up to a whole day's worth of activity. Period.
- Adjust your expectations. Conventional deodorants work thanks to their toxic list of ingredients. Aluminum, for example, acts as a plug for your sweat glands. (Sounds healthy, right? Yeah, no.) While natural and non-toxic deodorants have come a long way and are effective, they will not keep your body in an artificial "dry and fresh" state like you may be used to.
- Keep it clean. Shower every day (a good habit regardless of your deodorant choice!) and don't be shy about hopping in to rinse off additional times as needed.
- Reapply. Carry deodorant in your purse so you can reapply if you're out and about for an extended time.
