Tinted Moisturizer

Tinted Moisturizer

Replacing a longtime makeup love like Bobbi Brown’s Tinted Moisturizer with a non-toxic option is no small feat.  We were super skeptical that we’d find something with such perfectly-sheer coverage and daily SPF protection.  But after much trial and even more error, we found the best.  Here's the full scoop.

Beautycounter uses non-nano zinc oxide as a mineral sunblock, avoiding chemical sunscreens, which may be linked to hormone disruption.  Do your homework and read your labels!   (Here's how.)  Or, buy your beauty products from a brand you know steers clear of toxic ingredients.

Beautycounter’s Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer (EWG Rating 2) is amazing.  It has a slightly thicker consistency and slightly sheerer coverage than Bobbi Brown’s, but still packs SPF 20, the shade is spot-on, and the formula isn’t greasy (like some others we tried).  We also love that it is dispensed by a little pump under the cap!  It's so much easier to get the exact amount you need that way.

The formula has "black currant, peony flower root extract, and vitamin C, [which] reduce the appearance of age spots and enhance skin brightness, while hyaluronic acid promotes smoother-looking skin."  Bingo.

Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer, Beautycounter, $45

Dew Skin is sheer and very blend-able.  We recommend going with a slightly darker shade than you’re used to for a bit more coverage or layer it with your favorite foundation (here’s ours).

Here's a guide on selecting your color, which is super helpful.  Apply a small amount along your jawline, just below the ear.  Blend with your fingers.  The shade should seamlessly blend in with your skin tone.  If you get the wrong color, take advantage of Beautycounter's 60-day super easy return policy.

Pump a small amount onto your forefingers and spread evenly over face and décolleté in an upward motion.  (We prefer to apply with our fingers, but a brush like this will work, too.)  Reapply after prolonged sun or moisture exposure to ensure SPF effectiveness.
