Dog Bowls

We went searching for non-toxic dog bowls and were both disappointed and delighted with what we found.  The downside: there are few options on the market.  (Business opportunity, anyone?)  The upside: there are plenty of "human" options that fit the bill just fine... and look great, too.

Plastic is a no go.  We've all heard about the dangers of BPA, and it's substitute, bisphenol S (BPS), has been shown to be just as harmful.  Stainless steel is a non-toxic option (be wary of glazes, however), but we inferred pups probably don't want to eat off metal any more than we do.  (Keeping a set of stainless bowls on-hand for outdoor use is a great idea, however.)  Glass is a safe, food-ready material and won't discolor or absorb odors.  And heavy-weight options were plenty durable for all dogs we tested with.  The problem?  We found glass bowl options to always look dirty.  Even when they were only a few hours out of the dishwasher.  Ceramic offers a solid solution - all the perks of glass, but you won't see water spots!

If this cereal bowl from Crate & Barrel is good enough for us, it's good enough for them.  It's the perfect size - 2.5" x 6" - to hold a full cup of food.  (If you need a larger size, check out the low bowl from the same collection.)  Weighty, durable and available in six beautiful colors that will blend in beautifully with your decor.

Available individually or as a set of four.  If yours is a multi-dog household and you like to have extras on hand to rotate through the dishwasher, this option is about as affordable as it gets.

Part of the same collection as shown above, but this one is quite a bit larger (it's the "serving" bowl) at 3.75" x 9".  It's large enough to handle a multiple-pup household.

Like the "food bowl" above, this bowl is weighty, durable and available in six beautiful colors that will blend in beautifully with your decor.  Dishwasher safe, too.  We picked up two so we can rotate them and always have a clean one ready to go.
